“Comics for Kids” the annual Stand-up-Comedy fundraiser for Rainbow babies and Children’s Hospital was founded in 2003.
It all began with a simple conversation between two people who wanted to make a difference by creating a onetime fundraiser. The idea was to assemble a stand-up comedy show featuring local amateurs. Tickets would be sold and the proceeds would benefit University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. That first show ran for three hours and featured local amateur and professional comics from the greater Cleveland area. The proceeds were small, but the event turned out to be a fun filled evening for all who attended and participated. It was the beginning of an annual event that would soon grow beyond our expectations.
This year’s comics are:
Christine Kansy brings laughter with a twist. She’s been entertaining audiences with her relatable clean comedy for almost two decades. Christine regularly performs all over Northeast Ohio, showing everyone that she can truly take lemons and make lemonade. Paralegal by day, comedian by night, she’s funny enough to quit her day job but doesn’t want to live in her car.
John Wellington John Wellingtons’ comedy is best described as DARK, DARK & DARKER. Wellingtons show is fast paced with little time in between laughing. No subject is off limits, Wellington takes pride in taking you to the brink of your sensibilities and then going further, some would say he delights in it, others find it foul still, but there is always laughter. Whether It be material about Wellington himself, or about growing up in West Virginia, political, social or something in current events, Wellington delivers every time. John Wellington is a veteran of the Stand-up comedy stage and has appeared on Cinemax/ HBO, NBC.com, and is the Co-founder of The Cleveland Comedy Festival.
DAN NEMETH is proud to be performing in the Comics for Kids 2019 show. As a comedian who grew up in Cleveland, OH, Dan developed into a popular act in the 90’s. His ability to do impressions made for an interesting show and soon found himself performing in clubs, colleges, amusement parks, county fairs…anywhere there was a stage and an audience, or at least half of those. Some of his impressions include The Simpsons, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Richard Simmons, Sesame Street, and his marquis impression, Barney Fife. His Barney Fife impression has led to several dinner theatre shows all over Ohio. Opening for acts such as Brad Garret and Louie Anderson, Dan has performed for comedy audiences for over 25 year, and he was an extra in The Shawshank Redemption filmed in Mansfield, OH.
Dan is a modern version of a renaissance man. In addition to comedy, he performs in local theatres, runs marathons, drives a semi, makes his own beer, raises a teenage daughter, and helps support his wife, Nancy, who lives in Victoria, BC in Canada.
